Laboratory for soft electronics, solar cells, and nanomanufacturing
Department of NanoEngineering
University of California, San Diego
The Lipomi Group is committed to K-14 and undergraduate involvement in research in science and engineering. Prof. Lipomi has been the Diversity Officer in the Department of NanoEngineering since he arrived at UCSD. In this role, he is also the departmental representative to the Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) for the IDEA Center, which functions simultaneously to promote the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students and also as student services for the entire Jacobs School of Engineering. One of the group's criteria for accepting students is a demonstration of the student’s commitment to outreach. Current and former undergraduates in the group include Jeremy Morales Madrigal (the southwest regional representative of the student chapter of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers), Eduardo Valle and Raziel Acosta (Federal McNair Scholars), Celine Liong and Selina Valladolid (former and current president of the UCSD chapter of the Society for Women Engineers), Esther Chan, Rene Martinez, Andrew Chiang, and Rachel Miller (IDEA Center Scholars), Daniel Rodriquez and Julián Ramírez (UCSD Initiative for Maximizing Student Development), Sandro Renteria-Garcia (Tufts University Bridge to Engineering Success Program), and Mare Ivana Diaz and Alejandra Bautista-Gutierrez (Qualcomm Institute High School Summer Scholars Program). Undergraduates are coauthors on fifteen of twenty-three of the group's publications and submitted manuscripts.
Our group hosts several lab tours per year in connection with the Society for Women Engineers, the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers, the IDEA Center, and other diversity organizations. We welcome engagement with the public of any kind, from visits to local schools to public engagements. For more information, please contact Prof. Lipomi directly.
